Event Details

#Tru are coming back to our second city, Amsterdam and our generous hosts Y.E.R. again for our 10'th event since the first, 18 months ago. During this time, #tru have built a global community of individuals who work or have an interest in what we call "The People Space."

The people space consists of Recruiters, (direct and agency), H.R. professionals, Branders, Digital Media Professionals, Technologists, Job Seekers, and more.  #Tru is an unconference.

What is an unconference?

An unconference is a gathering of minds, experiences and opinions where the attendees (or active participants) lead the conversation. There are 4 simple rules:

1: No Presentations

2: No Powerpoint

3: No Name Badges

4: No Pitching

Apart from that, anything goes. We don’t have presentations because the best knowledge is in the room. By bringing together participants from all kinds of backgrounds with a shared interest. Job Boards, Recruiters (Corporate and Agency), Technologists, Mobile Specialists, Branding Companies and more, all with a shared interest in talent attraction from a different perspective. No talking heads to listen to and nod or nod off.

No Powerpoint because we want the eyes to meet in the middle and everyone to have the floor. Each track, (session), has track leaders with a background in the topic, but their job is to start the conversation, be available for reference and sum things up. The stars always come from the participants. (We select track-leaders from participants at previous events.)

No name badges because we believe that if you don’t know who someone is you should introduce yourself and start talking. No need stare at their chest to work out if they are worth it.

No pitching because we don’t have exhibitions or stands. Any give always have to be creative and relevant and any product pitching gets shut down by the other participants. People will buy from you if they respect what you say, not what you pitch.

Each track lasts an hour, with 3 running an hour. You can move between tracks as you wish, it’s not considered rude and there is no need to stand on ceremony. Get what you want and move on, like an all you can eat buffet!

Here is what the attendees at #truStockholm thought of their first #tru experience, taken from a one word, one take video featured on the #truStockholm blog by Martin Couzins

Like all #tru events, numbers are restricted to 100 on a first come first served basis. The dress code is casual. We will be sourcing track titles over the coming month, expect full announcements over the next few weeks. Anyone can lead a track, just book a ticket and send your suggestions. Tracks will be in English and Dutch, according to participants, and as an added bonus, the guys behind #RIDE are planning an exclusive party for the 29'th.

Confirmed track leaders include:

@BillBoorman

@BillBoorman is the person behind the #tru brand and a serial conversationalist, whether it is in person or on-line. I have views to share and enjoy nothing more than talking, listening and learning  on and off line.

10 Things About Me:

1: I’m a serial twitterer. I joined the channel in March 2009 and to date have posted over 31,000 tweets, with no signs of letting up.

Thanks to www.sironasays.com

2: I have worked in and around recruiting for 27 years as a Recruiter, Temps Consultant, Manager, Operations Director and Training/HR Director. (12.5 years.) I started consulting and training recruitment firms in 2005, and have been doing that since.

3: I have been ranked 6′th and most recently 4′th in the trakkr/HRExaminer index of “Most influential on-line recruiters.” The index is based on an algorhythm that measures mentions, link-backs, reach and relevance of content. (Taken from key-words associated with recruiting.) You can read the full list HERE

4: At the end of 2008 my network consisted of 50 Linked In connections, mostly ex-colleagues, then I decided to get social.

5: I am not technical in any way. I can’t programme and I often have to ask for help with basic tasks. What i am quite good at is finding tools and applications and working out how to use them to network.

6: I love talking, listening and learning. I share my networks with some great people that help me do this. I can usually be found in twitter chats, on the phone or out meeting people for networking or just a beer.

7: I’m Dad to Frank (11) and Alice (8). They both keep me busy and give me plenty of inspiration.Kids have an inherent ability to question everything, learn and not worry about looking stupid. When do we lose these natural abilities? I have been married to my long suffering wife Fran for 16 years.

8: I have run 27 marathons badly, though I’m a bit out of shape at the moment. Will be working on this in 2011. I once tried to break a world record for dragging a tyre around the London Marathon route, all 26.2 miles, while dressed as a 6ft clown. It took 10 hours and I came last, crossing the line in the dark.

9: I live in a village (Earls Barton) in Northamptonshire, UK with my wife, children, Bear the Cat and Jack the Rabbit.

10: I split my time between organising #tru events, (The Recruiter Unconference), training Recruiters and key-note speaking. That and quite a lot of networking! I will travel anywhere in the world to speak.
